This is a grass roots level of basketball. The first Saturday is a 3-hour mini-camp, where we teach the fundamentals of the game, for example, the art of shooting, basketball handling, dribbling, passing, and defense. Teams are selected, and weeks 2-6 are 1-hour each with the first 30 minutes fundamentals, and the second 30 minutes game, where we put into practice what the athletes have learned. This will be our 7th year. Our coaches are the young men and women that play Varsity basketball.
Jr. High Boys and Girls Basketball
When: October 17, 2011 – December 10, 2011
Where: Practice at Gold Crown Field House (Lakewood) and Games throughout Denver
Age Group: 11-14 years
This is the start of our competitive basketball. The teams play basketball all over the metro area of Denver. We compete against teams in the Front Range Christian Athletic Association (FRCAA). Our coaches help the athletes to learn more about the mental game of basketball and build more of the fundamentals of the game. We help each athlete learn to play as a team. We still believe that every player gets to play in each game, although this is a competitive team and the better team players will receive more playing time. Each athlete will receive a jersey that will be returned at the end of the basketball year.
JV and Varsity Men’s and Women’s Basketball
When: November 14, 2011 – March 24, 2012
Where: Practice at Gold Crown Field House (Lakewood), Home games at Two Roads High School (Arvada)
Age Group: 14-18 years
This is our most competitive basketball league. Our regular season starts in December where we play FRCAA teams, from Fort Collins to Pueblo, with an end of season state tournament end of February. In March, we play national tournaments in Des Moines, IA (week-end regionals), and Springfield, MO (week-long nationals) – visit www.homeschoolbasketball.com for more information. Fundraising events are scheduled throughout the year, and each player is encouraged to participate to help offset the additional costs for these national tournaments.
All of our coaches are experienced in the sport, supportive if not actively homeschooling their own children, and committed to teaching Christian ethics on and off the court.
Dick’s Sporting Goods has signed an agreement to continue on as a corporate sponsor for the Denver Eagles fall sports which include baseball, soccer and volleyball. It is with great appreciation that we thank Dick’s for their continued sponsorship of Denver Eagles home school athletic sports!
Sunday marked the Tenth Anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attack on the United States of America. That afternoon, before the first game of their double header, the Denver Eagles JV baseball team took much time to embellish their dugout with American flags and our country’s patriotic symbols before circling in centerfield for a meaningful time of prayer. Then, alongside their opponents, both teams lined the 1st & 3rd base foul lines for a time of silence and prayerful remembrance. With caps removed and hearts lifted, the players, coaches, and upmires began singing “God Bless America;” what followed was the entire crowd coming to its feet and joining in resounding honor. The second pre-game ceremony, this time with different upmires and a different opponent, proved even more powerful, honoring, and moving, and, that afternoon, we think Heaven smiled.
The Denver Eagles JV Baseball Team dropped its 4th Seed Game of the fall Slammers/Dakota Ridge Fall League by a score of 8 – 0 to Dakota Ridge High School feeder team. Final pre-season record is now 3 – 1 as the Denver Eagles JV prepares for its League play in the upper division bracket.
The Denver Eagles JV Baseball Team won its 3rd Seed Game of the fall Slammers/Dakota Ridge Fall League by a score of 8 – 0! Dane Lockert records 9 strikeouts in his 4 innings 1-hitter whle Jon Strotz closes the final 2 innings by recording 4 more strikeouts with no hits. Record is now 3 – 0.
